Internship Opportunities

The vision of ELNC is a community where all children, regardless of the neighborhood in which they live, are able to thrive developmentally and educationally allowing them to fully embrace their God given potential and become self sufficient adults. ELNC creates and provide targeted neighborhood collaborative partners with technical, developmental and educational support in order to increase the accessibility of early educational resources for vulnerable children.

ENLC seeks candidates to fill three internship positions (described below). Hours needed range from 10-20 hours per week, depending on the candidates’ availability and skillset. Compensation is available in the form of a paid monthly stipend. Internships are renewable on a per semester basis.

Benefits of an Internship with ELNC

The Intern will be a part of and learn from two major initiatives (Baby Scholars and Early Learning Neighborhood Collaborative) in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The intern will learn about pressing issues facing the vulnerable children in the core city of Grand Rapids; placed based work within eight grass root organizations; and grass root/innovative collaboration and indigenous leadership development.

Social Media & Communication Assistant Intern

  • Support staff in analyzing and engaging target audiences through ELNC’s website, e-newsletter and blog. This includes: writing and editing online content; taking and editing photos, and producing articles on community meetings and events; and drafting press releases and media advisories;
  • Assist in website redesign project in as needed.
  • Assist in creating and implementing strategic and innovative social media campaigns aimed at increasing awareness of ELNC expanding outreach, and improving communication with our target audiences. This includes the growth and maintenance of social media presence via Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, etc.
  • Develop, compile and manage content including stories, anecdotes, special event information, and announcements to be shared online.
  • Create a method to track analytics to measure results and outcomes of communications efforts.

Data, Evaluation & Research Assistant Intern

  • Assist ELNC in collecting and analyzing program data.
  • Attend and report on ELNC Programs and events.
  • Identify and establish relationships with local and regional public/non-profit partners to advance collaborations on neighborhood-based initiatives.
  • Assist with program compliance and funding reports.
  • Assist with all ELNC Evaluation activities.

Qualifications & Experience Requirements:

  • Candidates must be either undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Passion for improving communities and strong personal values that aligns with ELNC's Vision and Mission.
  • Must have organization and planning skills, work management and prioritizing skills, verbal and written communication skills, the ability to problem solve, have attention to detail, accuracy, flexibility, reliability and be able to work in a team environment.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills and organizational skills required.
  • Strong familiarity with/interest in the field of community development preferred.
  • Self-directed, independent worker who takes initiative and is able to create the systems and processes inherent to this position.
  • Incredible attention to detail is critical.
  • Proficiency in the uses of technology, social media and website management required.
  • Flexibility and poise in dealing with a diverse set of individuals and organizations.
  • Detail-oriented while still able to understand and promote a global view of the community development field and ELNC.
  • Must have organization and planning skills, work management and prioritizing skills, verbal and written communication skills, the ability to problem solve, have attention to detail, accuracy, flexibility, reliability and be able to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent computer skills, including demonstrated competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point. (Skills in Adobe, Illustrator, or related software not necessary but welcomed).
