GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – Congratulations to the Early Learning Neighborhood Collaborative (ELNC) for winning this year’s Connecting with Community Award.
ELNC was established in 2011 to bring quality, free early childhood education and resources to children in the targeted neighborhoods of Grand Rapids. Approximately 83 percent of three and four year olds in these targeted areas are considered not prepared for kindergarten, placing them in future academic jeopardy.
With the collaborative efforts from technical, developmental and educational partners the ELNC has established six preschools that all hold four star ratings. The schools also offer educational courses and resources for parents of students in both English and Spanish.
Twenty percent of children in Grand Rapids’ most vulnerable areas have access to a quality preschool education. Now over 360 preschoolers have graduated from kindergarten with the help of the ELNC and its accessibility.
All of us at WOOD TV8 want to wish a big congratulations to all of our Connecting with Community finalists.
The charities, stories and passion you have shared in the community are truly appreciated. Thank you for all that you do.
