How Connecting with Community Awards Make a Difference
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) It’s important to shine a spotlight on great organizations in the West Michigan community. Collaborations between dedicated groups of people that are making a huge difference are the focus of the annual Connecting with Community Awards.
The 2015 Connecting with Community Award winner was the Early Learning Neighborhood Collaborative (ELNC). ELNC was established in 2011 to bring quality, free early childhood education and resources to children in targeted neighborhoods of Grand Rapids. With collaborative efforts from technical, developmental, and educational partners, the ELNC has established six preschools and offers educational courses and resources for parents of students in both English and Spanish.
In the year since it won, the ELNC founder says there have been more searches on their website, more followers on Facebook, more requests for speaking engagement and community collaborations, and also people interested in replicating their program in other communities.
ELNC also opened an infant-toddler program in Grand Rapids that is full to capacity.
